Helping Children Feel Understood, Calm and Confident

As a parent of neurodiverse children who have experienced anxiety and school refusal, I know what daily life can feel like. My approach is designed to meet your child where they are and help them feel safe, supported, and confident.

Every child experiences and processes the world in their own unique way. Neurodivergent children — including those with ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivities, or other differences in how the brain processes information — often experience the world more intensely.

When environments feel overwhelming or expectations feel difficult to meet, children can become anxious, dysregulated, or exhausted from trying to cope.

Neurodiversity is not something that needs to be “fixed.” However, many neurodivergent children benefit from support that helps them better regulate their emotions, manage stress, and feel more confident in themselves.

My Personal Understanding

I know firsthand how challenging daily life can be for neurodivergent children. My own children are neurodiverse and have experienced anxiety and school refusal. I understand the exhaustion, worry, and frustration that comes with trying to navigate each day when your child’s nervous system is constantly on alert.

This lived experience shapes how I work — with empathy, patience, and practical strategies that make a real difference.

Challenges Neurodivergent Children May Experience

When a child’s nervous system becomes overwhelmed, it may show up in many ways, including:

• Anxiety or frequent worry
• Emotional overwhelm or meltdowns
• Sensory sensitivities
• Difficulty regulating emotions
• Low confidence or self-esteem
• School-related stress or school refusal
• Difficulty sleeping or switching off
• Social anxiety or feeling different from peers
• Frustration, shutdown, or withdrawal

These behaviours are not deliberate — they are signals that the child’s nervous system is under strain.

How Hypnotherapy Can Support Neurodivergent Children

Hypnotherapy provides a calm, supportive way to help children understand and manage their feelings. Sessions are gentle, flexible, and tailored to each child’s age, personality, and needs.

Through structured sessions we can help children to:

• Learn calming techniques for anxiety and overwhelm
• Build confidence and self-esteem
• Develop emotional regulation skills
• Improve sleep and relaxation
• Feel safer and more comfortable in challenging environments
• Understand and manage their feelings more effectively

Relaxation, guided imagery, and simple techniques help the mind and body settle, supporting long-term emotional balance.

Working with Families

Parents play a vital role in supporting their children. I work collaboratively with families to help ensure that children feel supported both in sessions and at home. My personal experience as a parent allows me to understand the daily realities and provide strategies that are practical and effective.

Helping Children Feel Safe to Be Themselves

When neurodivergent children feel safe, supported, and understood, their confidence and ability to cope grow naturally.

Sessions are available in Solihull, Birmingham, and online across the UK.

Supporting children early can help them develop the emotional resilience and self-understanding they will carry into adulthood.
